Abstract

This study focuses on enhancing and development of pupils reading competence at English lessons, how to strengthen the critical role of reading in language acquisition and overall academic success. It also examines the development of reading competence among pupils at English classes, using modern approaches, strategies and methodologies, highlights the importance of reading as a foundational skill in language acquisition and a critical component of communicative competence. It explores different pedagogic strategies such as using group reading, pre-reading, during reading, post-reading strategies designed to engage students and improve their comprehention skills, fluency and critical thinking. The study was conducted among 30 5th grade pupils at rural secondary school in Uychi district in Namangan region of Uzbekistan, who were divided into 2 groups, the control group and experimental one. The teachers were also involved into the research and were asked to participate in the survey specially prepared for them.

After experimenting this study, the students improved their reading skills, reading fluency and comprehention, they were motivated to read more, develop lifelong reading habits. This research aims to supply pupils with main strategies for academic and personal life.
